Humidity for new cuts
First week
Keep dome humidity around 70 to 80 percent, ideally in the mid 70s to mid 80s
Why so high
Cuttings have no roots, so dry air wilts them before they can drink
Water and aero
Starts in water or a cloner can sit at 50 to 60 percent humidity because the stem is already wet
Room scale
A closet often needs a humidifier or fine misters plus a humidistat to hold the band
Warmth and light
Root heat
80 to 85 F (27 to 29 C) in air and medium is the fast-rooting range. Cooler rooms just slow down
Heat mats
A mat or heated tray with a tall dome holds a small batch without heating the whole room
Early light
Two T-8s or one HO T-5 over a four-foot rack is enough until roots appear
After roots
Double the light, often with two T-5 HO tubes, once the plants can use it
Working with a mother
Donor plant
The mother is the plant you keep in veg so every clone matches a known keeper
Tip versus internode
Tips make stronger plants. Internode starts make more copies from the same mother
Veg time
Larger clones need less veg after rooting. Smaller clones pack more starts into one tray
Your method
If your routine roots cleanly, it is the right method for that mother
Without a large mother room
Tissue option
Micropropagation grows many tiny copies on sterile gel and can replace a row of mother plants
Mother jars
A multiplying jar acts like a mother that does not fill a veg tent
After deflask
Treat tissue-culture plants like ordinary clones under a dome until a cuticle forms
Sterile handling
Alcohol, a pressure cooker, and a clean tote matter more than a formal lab
